It's changing provider without changing your domain. The name stays the same and stays yours; what changes is who handles the registration, the renewal and the support. It isn't buying another domain or starting over: it's managing what you already have from here, with one invoice and one person to ask.
Three practical reasons. Your domain, hosting and email end up in the same place, which saves you scattered accounts and renewal dates in different systems. You talk to us in Portuguese, with people who know how .pt and the Portuguese rules work. And on .pt and .com.pt endings the transfer costs you nothing.
They won't, as long as the DNS servers stay the same. A transfer changes who manages the registration, not where the site is hosted. If you use the move to bring your hosting over as well, then there is a migration to do, and we prepare that in advance so the switch happens without a visible outage. If you're unsure, ask before you start: that's what we're here for.
Four things. That more than 60 days have passed since the domain was registered or last transferred, which is a registry rule, not ours. That the domain is unlocked at your current provider. That you have the authorisation code, also called EPP code or auth code, which your current provider is obliged to give you. And that registration data protection is switched off, so the registrant email is visible during the process. Also check that the domain isn't in redemption or pending deletion.
You type the domain into the search box on this page and we confirm it's in a state to be transferred. You enter the authorisation code during checkout and pay. From there the request goes to the registry and you get a confirmation email at the registrant address: confirming that email is what makes the transfer move quickly. Once it completes, we let you know and the domain appears in your client area.
If you confirm the registrant email straight away, it's usually done the same day or the next. If you don't, registry rules require a waiting period, and on international domains that can run to five days before the transfer is approved automatically. Portuguese endings follow the .pt Registration Rules. The timing depends on the registry and on your current provider, not on us, which is why we always tell you where it stands.
You don't. On international domains a transfer normally includes an extra year, added on top of the time you already had: that's why the transfer price is close to a renewal. On .pt and .com.pt endings, where the transfer is free, you keep the expiry date you already had. In no case does a transfer shorten your domain's term.
It happens, and nearly always for one of the reasons above: a locked domain, a wrong authorisation code, fewer than 60 days since registration, or an unconfirmed registrant email. The domain stays exactly where it is, with no risk of losing it. We tell you what the reason was, help you fix it and resubmit the request. If a transfer really turns out not to be possible, talk to us and we'll sort it out with you.
The Portuguese endings .pt and .com.pt transfer at €0.00. On the others, a transfer costs the same as a renewal and adds a year to your domain: €16.87 on .com, €19.62 on .net, €20.32 on .org, €31.28 on .info. The table on this page has prices for every ending. No VAT is added: we are covered by the VAT exemption under Article 53 of the Portuguese VAT Code, so the price you see is the price you pay.
It works like any domain of ours: it renews automatically every year and we email you before each renewal with the price, 14 days ahead on cycles up to a year and 30 days on multi-year ones. Cancel in your client area up to the day before: you keep the service until the end of the period you have paid for, and that period is not refunded. And if one day you want to leave, we give you the authorisation code and unlock the domain, with no exit fees.
If you're a consumer, you have 14 calendar days from your order confirmation to cancel without giving a reason: email support@raiaweb.pt and we refund within 14 days, at no cost. A completed transfer is a service carried out immediately and in full, and that right only ends if, at checkout, you expressly asked for that immediate start and acknowledged that you would lose it. Today our checkout doesn't ask you for those two declarations, so the right stands.
