Frequently Asked Questions
It's where your website actually lives. Your files, images, database and email sit on a server we manage, permanently connected to the internet, so anyone can open your site at any time of day. Without hosting, your site only exists on your own computer. Our shared hosting sits in Portugal, so inside the European Union and under Portuguese jurisdiction.
The domain is the address people type, for example myshop.pt. Hosting is the house those files live in. You need both: one without the other shows nothing. They're billed separately: a domain is paid yearly to the registry behind that ending, hosting is paid per billing cycle. We handle both and connect them for you. Your domain renews automatically every year and we email you before it expires; unlike hosting, a registration is completed the moment it happens, so it isn't refundable.
On shared hosting we manage the server and split it between several sites, each with its own slice of the resources. That is plenty for most brochure sites, small shops and blogs. A VPS is a machine of your own, with your plan's resources dedicated to it, where you choose the system - and where running it is down to you. It is the next step once shared hosting stops keeping up. Shared from €5.55/month, VPS from €13.00/month, no VAT added (Article 53 of the Portuguese VAT Code).
You'll get your order confirmation and login details by email. Shared hosting is normally activated automatically and immediately, as soon as payment clears. From there you log into the control panel, point your domain at it and start building. Our availability target is 99.9%, and you can raise a support ticket at any hour of the day or night, with an average response time of 8 hours.
Yes. On shared hosting plans we do the move ourselves, at no extra cost. You give us access to your current host and we copy the files, the databases and the email accounts. It's done on a best-effort basis: we can't guarantee every application and setting carries over exactly, and we'll tell you up front if we spot anything that won't carry over. If the move is unusual, with many sites or very large volumes, we look first and quote you before we start.
No. The control panel is cPanel and it comes with a one-click installer offering more than 400 applications, WordPress included: pick one, install it, and the site is ready to edit. HTTPS is automatic too, so the padlock appears without you touching certificates. If you already have a site built, upload it through the panel's file manager or over FTP.
Yes. You create addresses on your own domain, like hello@mybusiness.pt, and read them in webmail or on your phone and laptop over IMAP. There is no cap on mailboxes: what counts is your plan's disk space and a sending limit, which is there to keep spam down. Your email is hosted in Portugal, same as your site. Already have email elsewhere? We bring the messages across during the migration.
Three things: a domain (register it with us or point the one you already have), your content, and accurate, up-to-date billing details including your tax number. After that the site is yours: keeping WordPress, plugins and themes updated and using strong passwords is on you, because that's where nearly every hacked site starts. We look after the server, and support covers questions about the hosting service itself. Setting up the applications you install, or cleaning an infected site, is separate work: we always quote you first.
Web Básico at €5.55/month (1 domain, 5 GB NVMe), Web Simples at €9.99/month (2 domains, 10 GB) and Web Avançado at €18.00/month (5 hosted domains, up to 2 websites, 25 GB). All include email, databases and unmetered traffic, subject to fair use, plus cPanel, AutoSSL and Imunify360. These are final prices: we're under the VAT exemption of Article 53 of the Portuguese VAT Code, so no VAT is added. Save 8% on a one-year cycle, 10% over two years and up to 13% over three.
You pick the cycle and it renews automatically for equal periods. We email you before every renewal with the price: 7 days ahead on monthly cycles, 14 on cycles up to a year, 30 on two and three-year ones. Cancel in your client area up to the day before: you keep the service until the end of the period you have paid for, and that period is not refunded. Any price change comes with 30 days' notice and you can cancel at no cost.
If you are buying as a consumer, you have 14 calendar days from your order confirmation to cancel without giving a reason: just email support@raiaweb.pt, or use the Annex A form. If you asked at checkout for hosting to start straight away, you only pay for the days you used; if not, it is a full refund. And on a first shared hosting plan we refund the lot anyway, apart from domains and certificates. Refunds arrive within 14 days, same payment method.
No plan is bottomless: there's a ceiling on CPU, memory, disk space and email sending. If a spike in visitors or a badly built plugin weighs on the server, we may throttle that process; we explain what happened and suggest a bigger plan, or a VPS if the site is already at another scale. Whenever it's reasonable, we warn you first and give you time to fix it. Suspension is only immediate for a serious security risk, manifest illegality, an order from an authority or non-payment. Shared hosting also isn't for game servers, VPNs, torrents or personal file storage.
We run daily backups with up to 7 days of retention, on a best-effort basis. You can request a restore through a ticket: if the data loss is our fault, it's free; otherwise there may be a charge, always quoted before we start. Even so, keep your own copies - our backups are an extra layer, not a replacement for yours. You can also generate and download a full backup from cPanel whenever you like.
You can leave whenever you like, with no fees: we do not charge for switching provider or for taking your data with you. You download the lot from cPanel - files, databases and email - or ask us for help through a ticket. Once the contract ends we keep your data for 30 days so you can still export it; after that it is deleted for good, backups included.
